xLume LED Controller for Xbox 360

xLume is an ESP8266-based RGB LED controller designed for compatible Xbox 360 custom lighting installations.

Used alongside the xLume Xbox application, the controller communicates with the console over UART and allows supported lighting colours and effects to be controlled directly from the Xbox 360.

The kit is supplied with a 17-LED strip, providing enough LEDs for a typical installation around the fan area of an Xbox 360 Slim console.

Included LED Strip

The supplied strip contains 17 LEDs.

The default configuration in xlume.ini is therefore:

ledCount: 17

If you extend or replace the strip with a different number of LEDs, the configured LED count must be changed to match.

LED Connection

The controller must be connected to the input end of the LED strip.

Addressable LED strips are directional, so connecting the controller to the incorrect end of the strip can prevent the LEDs from operating correctly.

Xbox Configuration

For xLume communication to function correctly, debug output must be enabled in the console's launch.ini configuration.

Add or enable:

debugout = true

Supported Lighting Effects

The xLume software supports a range of lighting modes, including:

• Static colour
• Static gradient
• Static pulse
• Static twinkle
• LEDs off
• Colour wave
• Colour cycle
• Dynamic pulse
• Dynamic twinkle

Command Examples

The xLume Xbox application can send commands to the controller over UART.

Set RGB colour:

[xLume] - 0, 0, 255

Example above sets the output to blue.

Select effect:

[xLume] - Effects: 0

Available effect values:

• 0 – Static Colour
• 1 – Static Gradient
• 2 – Static Pulse
• 3 – Static Twinkle
• 4 – LEDs Off
• 5 – Colour Wave
• 6 – Colour Cycle
• 7 – Dynamic Pulse
• 8 – Dynamic Twinkle

Change LED count:

[xLume] - ledCount: 10

Change this value to match the number of LEDs connected to the controller.

Installation Requirements

Installation requires experience with Xbox 360 console modification and electronics.

You may require:

• Soldering equipment
• Suitable wire
• Access to the required UART connection points
• Correct console configuration
• xLume Xbox software
• Basic understanding of addressable LEDs

Incorrect wiring may damage the controller, LED strip or console.
